About Aikido

Aikido is a dynamic, traditional Japanese martial art
  • Suitable for all physiques and levels of fitness. You don’t need to ‘get fit’ before you start – just come as you are!
  • It is non-confrontational. We don’t meet force with force – and we don’t rely on strength
  • Learn how to take an aggressor’s balance and de-stabilise them, both physically and mentally
  • We blend with the incoming force, then redirect and control the movement
  • Aikido is not competitive. We train with a partner and work together to help improve our techniques and ability
  • As Aikido is non-confrontational and non-aggressive, there tends to be a better balance of men and women than you find in most other martial arts, which can be male dominated
  • Aikido benefits go well beyond the Dojo (Training Hall). Aikido will help you in your everyday life. It can help build self-confidence and increase your potential to deal effectively with stressful or aggressive situations. ie, at work, school or even in the home
  • It will also help to improve your general health, fitness and your physical and mental well-being
